I love the image's reference to forest and water. Especially now that I live deep in a watery forest!
Here is part of a poem by TS Eliot that captures that for me:
If there were water
And no rock
If there were rock
And also water
And water
A spring
A pool among the rock
If there were the sound of water only
Not the cicada
And dry grass singing
But sound of water over a rock
Where the hermit-thrush sings in the pine trees
Drip drop drip drop drop drop drop
T.S. Eliot, What the Thunder Said
Interesting note: The hermit-thrush (Turdus aonalaschkae pallasii) is celebrated for its 'water-dripping song'. The Handbook of Birds in Eastern North America says 'it is most at home in secluded woodland and thickety retreats…. It's notes are not remarkable for variety or volume, but in purity and sweetness of tone and exquisite modulation they are unequalled.'
That poem inspired my first newsletter for Aquaest Retreat and I've continued to be 'obsessed' by the many hidden messages of water.
